Researching and exploring ideas

Examples of Interactive Digital Media
Uploaded by SCubeGlobal. - Technology reviews and science news videos.

This is an example of interactive media that has a huge influence on our ideas for this project, this was a project made of interactive touch pads and touch screen technology, although we will not be able to do an interactive project of this calaper we can still do something simular on a small scale like with the touch pads on the floor instead we can use the arrows on the keybourd to move the camera around. we also like the idea of being able to pop up images of the creatures and bein able to scroll round 3d images of it if we can get hold or manage to create 3d scale images of the creatures i feel this will be a great interactive addition to our project.

This is an interactive project of a digital tank, when you press the screen the fish god nuts and swim away from your hand and dart off in different directions, we like this idea an interactive feature we want to include in are project is to put the mouse to the fish and for the fish to swim off in different directions .

This is an interactive project done in london projected onto the floor was a marine life image of coral and fish swimming round and whenever someone would walk over it the water would look like.

Animations

http://www.turntables.de/scratchit10.php

This is an animation of a man stood behind a stage djing, the animation value of it is that you can change the music add scratches playing with the lighting and make an mc make some noises i thought this was a really good animation i enjoyed doing it and the quality of the graphics were really good. I feel this level of interaction is what i would like to involve with my final fish animation were there different things to click where different things happen.
This animation is vector which makes it have great quality, the sounds and beats you can use are really good and simple to use, the lighting effect works really well, the game doesn't lagg at all it is all quick no loading needs to take place and once you start it you can just keep going which is really important in a DJ game.
Improvements I would make is maybe being able to upload your own samples onto it to use and mix up, but all in all the sound effects and the animations are really good there is not much i could pick fault on with this animation.

http://www.idleworm.com/tch/rbill.shtml

This animation is of Bill Gates basically it is a very simple format there are 6 buttons, 3 for the left fist and 3 for the right fist and I can either punch Bill in the face, the body or the crutch reagion. it is a funny game watching the animation of bill gates react to how you punch him, it is a fun game but it gets very old very quickly.
This animation is using vector graphics which are very accurate and clever to look at, it runs really well and there is no lagging what so ever so it is quick and you don't have to wait for the animation to keep up which is really good, in terms of sounds they have used the same sound over and over again which is really poor and boring so no matter where you hit him it sounds the same unless you hit him in the crutch where he makes a funny noise then he goes down and he makes a noise when he hits the floor.
Improvements i would make to the animation is maybe having more to do , also there is physical damaged shown on Bill which would make it that bit more realistic and fun to watch, also once you hit him in the crutch he goes down, it would be lot better if he took a few hits with some funny faces before he went down. Also if there were a few more sound effects rather than the same old noise over and over again.
I like this animation and i think using buttons to create movement is very simple, the only thing i would like to take from this in my project is using the same sort of graphics very neat and look really good in vector.

http://www.bechamel.com/v3/j_bubble.htm

This is a very simple animation of a man who stands there twidling a bubble blower and when you click on him he blows up a bubble which i thought was really clever when you put your mouse to the bubble it pops which i also thought was very clever.
This animation is a vector animation so the graphics are really clever and sharp, there is no lagging with the animation so there is no waiting around but in all its a very short and simple animation which gets a bit boring after you have done it twice, the sound effects are very simple there a constant sound of him rattling the bubble thing in the tub then when you click him there is a blowing noise and then a popping noise if you pop the bubble the rattling sound is very annoying and gets frustrating after a little wile.
Things i would change maybe is for different things or images to come up in the balloon which would have been more interesting maybe different words to make a sentence that way it would keep the user more interested in what is going on. also i would make a few different sound effects maybe some like elevator type music in the background just to give it an early mystery sort of feeling to it.
The inspiration i got from this piece is the bubble being popped i feel if we have the time it will be a great part of our animation if we had the occasional random bubble that would come up then would pop if you went to it with the mouse cursor.

Developing an idea for interaction work

Today we presented are project ideas to kelsi at the aquarium, i feel that are presentation went really well, we covered every thing that we wanted to cover and i feel that all of kelsis questions were answered, things we might want to cover which doing are final project could be, include lesser known fish as well as the more known fish , maybe get the audience hooked in with the popular fish then begin to start on the less known fish, another thing we have to consider is what are target audience is, maybe having a child size hand as well as a adult size hand so that the kids can compare the size of the fish to there hands, another thing we can include is at the end of each bio of the fish you could have a question which the user has to answer to prove that they have learnt about the fish that they have just clicked on, also linking to this is they got more questions wrong than right then the waters and the corel begin to die to to human wasteage and environmental reasons, also another thing to change is the maybe mate the arms and hands semi translucent so you can see more of what is really going on ,
After we did are presentation we had a talk with a marine biologist who we asked about the lesser popular fish he mentioned the Humphead Rask who when fully grown it can waigh up to the same weight as a mini cooper , he also mentioned fish like, The parrot fish, spotted egal ray, silver moro and the black tip shark, which we can include in are animation, he also spoke to us about the coral in the different reefs, he mentioned to maybe consentrate on the Indian reef and the Australion reef, but he told us to keep to one of them because there are differences between the two.

Through out are project we have got some sort of insperation or an idea wile we been doing this work and are project have developed as we have been doing it , not only adding new ideas but changing ideas that we already had due to problems we have bumped into wile making the animation.

Working within constraints

Time

We had 5 weeks to do are project from scratch all three of us took this as a chalendge, so time was a huge factor in this project, problems we would have would be animating the fish so that they move, setting the scenery and making sure it was at a good enough quality so that it didnt pixelate when things came towards the screen. also finding out and putting in the coding was a huge thing that we had to do in a small space of time, as non of us were really goo pros at Flash coding we really had to do our research and did deep to find the ways of how to get the coding to work.

Accuracy

With this project the animation had to be accurate so the fish had to move ritualistic and the images of the fish had to be correct as well, this was hard so a lot of research went into finding out facts about the fish and making sure are animations were accurate to how the fish really were in there true habitat, we also wanted to put in a bio for this fish witch we needed the facts and info for an also doing a size ratio scale so that people using it could compare themselves to the size of the fish that we had in out animations.

Knowledge

Knowledge was a huge factor in this project, being amature graphic artist in are first year we didnt know a huge amount about the softwhere we was using

Completing the work

This here is the basic scenery of our animation, this stays still throughout the whole animation it basically just sets the scene and gives the illusion that you are under water. This was made up using images of water and vector images of rocks and seaweed.

This is vector images of seaweed these images emerge from the back ground and get bigger as they come forward to get the illusion of moving threw the water the also faid out as they go past u i feel it worked really well for the effect we was trying to get.

This is when we tryed to get the animals to swim across the stage we basicly created a simple tween and inside that tween is an animation for the movement of the fish or other sea creatures, this was a learning curve for me altho we had done it befor in class, we had not done it to the extent that we had to do for this project.

This is the starting screen , it is a scuba diver which floats up and down asif it is under water and it also gives it a slight shimmer so looks like you are under water also.

This is a clip shot of all the animals before entering the screen ready to tween in and swim across the stage ready for you to click them to find out the information on them.

This is the start of the animation where the information comes up it slides in from the surrounding borders in a sort of smooth way , like on a mac, this was a simple tween as well, which worked out really well, and gave it a professional look which i really liked.

This is how it looks when the sourounding bits are complettly on the page, i looks smooth neat and professional which i am really pleased with, it contains are size comparason charts and the map of where it is from and general information about it , this will pop up when the fish are clicked.

This is an image of the arms with the whole animation with it, these arms move around with the mouse and then you click on this fish with them, this is the over all look of are animation, altho i feel it looks a bit poor in quality i still feel we as a group have accomplished a lot, we have learnt some great new skills to use in the future.
